No more surfing this year?...

It's allready a week nonstop freezing. And today's forecast for the comming week is pure horror..
-10 average and combined with the wind it can feel as -20 degrees/or more....

Nothing wrong with a true winter. Way better than nonstop rain, but the surfboards can go to the attic..

Paul and Cornelia from Munich came by, so what better than eating ultimate winter food (boerenkool) and watching the ski worldcup

Right now it's snowing and on the radio I hear the news that we beat a recored..
total trafficjam over 900 km!!!

First major big wave event in Europe???

Big wave surfer Garret McNamara is in Portugal to explore the possibilities of hosting a major big wave event in the small town of Nazaré. And it looks like he's convinced ;-) Here's a link to a short video from the Portuguese news and a link to some impressive photos.

The event should take place in 2012 and would be the first major big wave event in Europe.

Moroccan cuisine..

A very rainy sunday. So time to bring that southern vibe/feel/smell/taste into the house..
Time for a Moroccan super dish

The ingredients for the meat: minced meat, crushed bread, egg, union, coriander, ginger, garlic,
kurkuma, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and coriander

ingredients for the sauce: chickenbouillon, olive oil, union, garlic, green pepper,
cinnamon sticks, kurkuma, cumminseed, tomato, raisins, carrots, spinache and lemon

Served with bread or couscous...

While eating this superb food, the memories went automaticly to the superb conditions we scored..

I'm allready checking the last minute flight prices ;-)

Westeinder session

The wind has been good in Holland last week. A good 30 to 40 knots were entering the dutch waters. I went to the Oostvoornse meer and Westeinderplas. Those are good places for training freestyle. I was on 90L Patrik freestyle and my 4.1 Bolt. It was really nice. Was a long time ago I sailed this good. It was not even that cold. Here is a clip of the session at Westeinder.

Thanks to Walter Schellingerhout.

Stormy winds at Stavoren, ijsselmeer

Checking the wind force and direction...

More than enough wind. Solid force 9. Time to time flying water/heavy wind gusts

Weapon of choise. My new 70 liter board. Sailed first 2 hours with 4 fins, later I switched to 2. A perfect day to feel/check out the differences . With 4 fins the board was more "locked" (as on rails), superb control. Absolute never a spinout. Full speed long radius jibes carving through the rough chop. Perfect upwind... also better for jumping into the wind. Felt absolute safe in control in these conditions. Nose stayed down

With 2 fins the board became instantly loose, way looser....
Still enough control and shorter turns became more easy. Especially short/fast jibes between the steep choppy waves. On the straight line no extra spinouts, but on a topturn a controlled slide almost standard. Overall: less control, but more fun. Kept on sailing in this mode

What a superb sailing day!!! No crowds, in the middle of the nature, no stress to get there (no traffic jams etc)-- Sure I like to surf on the sea, but this direction would would mean: full onshore..

Spring in November

Picture of last week. The weather forecast on the news.. (red/blue line is normal day/night temperature)
So last thursday it was windy and the temperatures were like a spring day..
Had a superb surfsession, and the new board got wet for the first time.
Sure, have to get used to it, but it turns on a daim.

Temperatures are now back to normal for this time of the year...
